Leila Albayaty is a multidisciplinary artist of French-Iraqi origin. Self-taught, she often explores themes of exile and memory. Her first short film VU received a Special Mention at Berlinale and her subsequent film BERLIN TELEGRAM was selected for about 30 international festivals and won the TV5 Prize for Best Francophone Film in Geneva.
In 2015, she made her 40-minute film, FACE B, which had its world premiere at Berlinale.
As for, her latest feature film, FROM ABDUL TO LEILA, it has received numerous awards including the Grand Jury Prize at the Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival in Morocco, Best Documentary at the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam in Netherlands and Aarhus Denmark, Best Asian Film in Iraq at El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt, and the Jury Prize at the Cinema in Nice-France.
